Match Play Draws – see time sheets for times

One Round to Go

Saturday saw the beginning of the matchplay component of the 2018/19 club championships. There were some convincing wins and some very close games with both A Grade preliminary finals going down extra holes.

With Gumm aiming to go back-back-back in A Grade, Sandy Francas looking to overcome the Ladies favourite Sue Keylock and family rivalry in the Junior’s, expect to see some exciting golf and close matches.

Goodluck to all in your respective matches.

House Keeping

Please note, the grade you are in NOW is the grade you qualify in. This is the same as every other year. Example, you maybe a B Grade in April 18 and now an A Grader, you may have been an A grader and now a B Grader. The fact is you are what you are at the time the match play is initiated. Whether this is a 12 round qual or last week. The form you are in at the time of the deciders is your current ability and we need to take the assumption that all are aiming to compete in the highest grade possible which is the true intent of the Championships. Match play also cancels out 10 shots on some days so this is the beauty for finding the truly consistent champion.

With all this being said, handicaps are no greater proof of the ability fo the golfer. If someone in teetering in and out of the edge of a grade they will be wither disadvantaged or advantaged, With the current handicapping system there is now way to “tank” as you require 12 + rounds to blow out a handicap with only one reducing it.

We would like to accept the format has not been a seamless transition. There are some merits to it but some against hence we will abandon the format as it currently exists and come up with a new way for 2018/19

Thank you everyone for being apart of 2018 / 19 Championships and best of golf to all qualifiers.

Regards,

Brayden
